Gratitude Is The Best Attitude
This post is a little different in that I wanted to just spread some positive vibes through some simple poetry that I've written, along with a couple of my favorite poems from other authors. It is so important to uplift our spirits often and try to fill our minds with positive thoughts. Because what we think and say to ourselves is what we manifest. And of course to find that healthy balance we have to look at and nurture all aspects of our very being, including our mental state. It is also important to practice gratitude for our lives and the things we might even take advantage of on a daily basis. Like the people in our lives and our health. The fact that our heart is still beating and working day in and day out to pump blood throughout our bodies is miraculous in of itself. I like to reflect and express my gratitude for life by writing in my journal or just by redirecting my thought process sometimes no matter where I am. If my journal is not within reach then I just grab my phone and write it down in my notes. So hopefully you leave this post feeling grateful and motivated to take on any challenges you may have or just LIFE in general!
Title: MAYA
When I wrote this poem my heart was so full. Full of GRATITUDE. I was able to see life, my daughter's life in the most simplistic way. The fact that she was laying down so peacefully during her nap, and just able to breathe without any assistance or added effort was everything to me in that very moment. And in every moment thus far. She is healthy and able to breathe air in and out, and that is what matters the most.
Title: Nurse ME!
To become a nurse
has always been my goal.
To help those in need,
and nurture a growing seed.
To mimic the work of the Man above,
is one thing I cannot help but love.
I vow to always keep my heart in the right place,
and my head in the right space.
As I witness those nurses who have become so immune,
I remind myself to never give in so soon.
To heal.. to care.. to listen.. to share.
Because who knows, one day it could be me lying there.
Title: Another for My Baby
My baby Maya so beautiful and wise.
So happy and soft from the moment you rise.
As I write this, I watch you dance.
Its in your eyes, its in your stance.
You amaze me, with what you have become.
My greatest joy in life is being your mum.
Title: An Ode To Papa
We call you Papa
but to me you are love.
We call you Papa
but to me you are wisdom.
We call you Papa
but to me you are strength.
We call you Papa
but to me you are so much more.
My GRATITUDE checklist
My family and I are happy and healthy...I am grateful
My heart is beating the way it should...I am grateful
All of my motor functions are in tact...I am grateful
I am able to breathe in and out freely...I am grateful
My brain is functioning to the best of its ability...I am grateful
I have a roof over my head and clothes on my back...I am grateful
Best of all I have life...and for that I am eternally grateful
Now I shall leave you guys with a couple of poems that I love and have incorporated in to my life as simple daily reminders. The first one, Still I Rise by Maya Angelou has been a favorite of mine since I was in grade school. It is just so powerful and uplifting I actually have the title tattooed on my left side. The second one by Beah Richards is one I just recently came across maybe last year or so. It is such a great daily reminder of how precious life is, and the importance of doing and being all that you can while you can!
Title: Still I Rise By: Maya Angelou
You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.
Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.
Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.
Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops,
Weakened by my soulful cries?
Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
'Cause I laugh like
I've got gold mines
Diggin' in my own backyard.
You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.
Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?
Out of the huts of history's shame
I rise
Up from a past that's rooted in pain
I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise I rise I rise.
Title: Today By: Beah Richards
Today is ours, let's live it
And love is strong, let's give it
A song can help, let's sing it
And peace is dear, let's bring it
The past is gone, don't rue it
Our work is here, let's do it
Our world is wrong, let's right it
The battle hard, let's fight it
The road is rough, let's clear it
The future vast, don't fear it
Is faith asleep? Let's wake it
Today is ours, let's take it
As always thanks for stopping by,
Shezel :)
